Napoleon spent quite a bit of time interviewing some of the richest and most influential men of his generation. His goal was to find out exactly what they did to become successful. Andrew Carnegie, a famous Scottish Us Steel Magnate, was also intrigued by the results successful people had achieved versus those of the less fortunate. He happened to meet Hill and hired him to research the reasons for success and write a report on his findings. After twenty years of research, the book was published, sharing interviews with rich men from across the globe. This book includes interviews with hundreds of successful businessmen, including: Ford, Wrigley, Wanamaker, Edison, Firestone, Eastman, three US Presidents, Darrow, Morgan, Rockefeller, Woolworth, and Burbank. Hill presented the answer to the question in a very enlightening, yet simplistic, manner. Anyone with the right attitude can become successful. One must have a good understanding of how the mind actually works and can use that knowledge to achieve anything one desires. Napoleon Hill summarized his thoughts with this one famous remark, "Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve." I find TGR to be a wonderful book for any new or experienced entrepreneur. The book is slightly difficult to understand, in some places, but only due to the language used during the era in which it was written. For that same reason, the book focuses on the mentality of men and ignores the plight of women. The book was written over 100 years ago, so there is no point in arguing the sexist point of view Napoleon Hill portrays. Because his research took place before women became active in the workforce, there weren't really any successful women for him to include. Today, anyone, male or female, should be able to pick up Think and Grow Rich and benefit from the ideas presented within.
