Arbonne
Arbonne International, based out of California, has been in business for over two decades and is considered a multi level (or network) marketing company. The company specializes in the production and sale of natural skin care products based on Swiss skin-care technology. Their product lines include hundreds of products formulated for men, women, and babies - to prevent aging, treat acne, and provide general skin care. The company has also recently launched a product line designed specifically for young teenagers.
This MLM takes special care to make sure all of its products are formulated with natural ingredients. They have a line of aromatherapy products that includes body scrubs, massage oil, lotion, and cleansing gels.
The company is incredibly successful and boasts increases in earnings every year. The corporation makes approximately $35 million in sales each year and is beginning to catch up to long-time rivals such as Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
The main downfall is the price of the product. They are relatively expensive, making it difficult for consultants to find repeat customers. The company claims that the price is comparable to other skin care lines because their products are concentrated and will last longer. Consultants are encouraged to sign customers up as consultants as well so that they can purchase products at wholesale even if they do not want to participate inthe business end of the opportunity.
The MLM business model is similar to that run by Quixtar. Consultants earn 35% commissions on products they sell at retail prices. They also earn small commissions on products purchased by consultants they have sponsored. They have a very strict set of guidelines concerning the ways in which consults may market and promote their companies.
It's difficult to make a steady income with any sort of MLM company, especially once you have exhausted your friends and family. One must have a strong, reasonably priced product in order to succeed in a cold market.
As I mentioned, Arbonne has some strict advertising guidelines. Consultants are not allowed to build their own websites. Instead, they must purchase one of Arbonne's websites if they wish to sell online. The cookie-cutter websites look alike, making it difficult to drive traffic. There are a few customizable pages, but the websites are better for those who want to direct people they already know as opposed to driving new internet traffic. The business is really designed to be conducted in person, via in-home demonstrations.
Because of the restrictions imposed, many consultants have resorted to selling their products on auctions sites such as eBay. While this is definitely against Arbonne's rules, it is much more difficult to track. Unfortunately, selling products on eBay has increased competition and has made it even more difficult than before for consultants to make a profit.
After examining and testing hundreds of money-making opportunities and work at home programs, ONLY ONE brought in a paycheck that covered all my monthly expenses.
